Bacterial infections due to ofloxacin-suscebtible microorganisims, such as:

1. Acute, chronuc or recurrent lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis), especially if caused by haemophilus influenzae or other Gram-negative or multi-resistant pathogens, as well as by staphylococcus aureus.

2. Pneumonia, especially if caused by pathogen such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Legionella, or Staphylococcus.

Since in outpatients, pneumococci are the most frequent pathogens responsible for pneumonia, Tarivid is not the treatment of first choice in those patients.

3. Chronic and recurrent infections of the ear, nose and throat, especially if caused by Gram-negative pathogens including Pseudomonas, or by Staphylococcus.

However, tarivid in general not indicated for treatment of acute tonsilitis caused by beta-haemolytic streptococci.

4. Infections of soft tissues and skin.

5. Infections of the bones and joints.

6. Abdominal infections including infections in the pelvis minor and bacterial enteitis.

7. Infections of the kidney, urinary tract, genital organs and gonorrhoea.

Prevention of infections due to ofloxacin-susceptable pathogens (prophylaxis of infections, also by selective decontamination of the intestine) in patients with a significant reduction in resistance to infections )e.g. in neutropenic state).
